CRISiSLab Earthquake Early Warning Webinar – The Human Side of EEW

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

On 18 August 2022, our star social scientists Associate Professor Julia Becker and Dr Lauren Vinnell shared some of their research on how people in Aotearoa New Zealand think about an EEW. Both of them have conducted surveys throughout the years and check out the recording to see what they have found.

Julia’s areas of expertise include perceptions, preparedness, community resilience, emergency management and warnings, and her work has laid an important foundation for many social science research projects in NZ. Lauren’s expertise is in experimental survey design and quantitative analysis. She is interested in understanding peoples’ judgments and behaviour around preparation for and response to natural hazards.

Here’s a recording of their webinar.

As part of a project exploring the concept of community-based EEW using low-cost sensors, we regularly host webinar sessions inviting key speakers.
